My DIY'd Boho Patio Tour (Renter-Friendly)
When I moved into my new apartment at the end of March, I knew before I decorated the living room or bedroom or kitchen, I wanted to tackle my patio.
Since it’s a seasonal space, I knew I couldn’t wait around when it came to finding furniture and decor pieces, otherwise they’d be out of stock before the nice summer weather even came around.
So at the end of May, when it finally warmed up, I put my small apartment patio/balcony together and I am in love with the little modern boho retreat I created.
First up, I suggest you watch the video, that’s where you can really see this space come to life as well as the DIYs (including how I hung curtains on my patio).
In case you didn’t want to watch the video (or did, but want to keep reading), here’s a few photos of how the space turned out! I totally forgot to take before photos because I was just so excited to start decorating.
And, if you want to check out the blog post on how I installed my patio curtains, click here.
I wanted simple and affordable patio furniture, so I picked up this dark brown wicker-looking chair and table set from Big Lots. They’re not the fanciest furniture pieces, but I like how they easily stack together so I can store them away in the winter.
I absolutely love how the green in the pillows pops against the dark brown furniture, and I think they make it look a lot more high-end.
I opted for faux plants for this makeover mostly because I didn’t feel up to the challenge to take care of large plants at this point. I figured this year I’ll start with a hanging basket and my herb garden and maybe try more real plants next year.
Adding the Dollar Tree nautical rope around the edges of the pillows definitely took them to the next level. It’s just the right touch of incorporating the natural elements that you find in boho decor.
All the instructions for the DIYs are either linked in this post, or included in the video.
Here’s the other coroner with a few more DIYs. It was a bit hard to decorate this area since I have that door to my outdoor storage closet. I DIY’d that wall hanging out of Dollar Tree bath mats! I absolutely love it and it fits so well in the space.
I styled another faux plant in this corner with my watering can, so it’s easy to access, and my DIY’s macrame lantern (the candle inside is batter operated!).
Here’s my macrame hanging flower basket, which I think looks so pretty. Purple’s my favorite color, so while the flowers don’t match the decor necessarily, the purple blooms bring me so much joy!
Out of focus behind it is the DIY geometric wood sign I posted here. The blog post includes a free tutorial on how to make it yourself!
And here’s another DIY! I made this Moroccan tile serving tray and it just looks so incredible styled in the completed space (I highly recomend you check out the tutorial).
I added a citronella candle, a faux succulent in a cute terra cotta pot, and I DIY’d some quick coasters using the leftover Dollar Tree nautical rope.
And finally, here is the the DIY railing herb garden I made. I had such a hard time finding a railing planter basket that I liked and that would work on my balcony, so I decided to make my own using two spice organizer baskets and an over-the-door hanger! The instructions are in the video above.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made my patio come to life! I have many more room makeovers planned for my new space, so be sure to follow along with the blog and on my social media below!
