Thrifted Items into Halloween Decor
It’s day two of HalloWeek and I’m so excited for today’s post! That’s because I’m doing a thrift flip! I love thrift shopping, especially to find great items to DIY. And it’s even more fun when I’m doing it to make new Halloween decor.
I found some great items this trip and am going to show you how I transformed some candle sticks, vases and old books into brand new spooky decor.
Now, for this post, I’m going to refer you to the video right below. That’s because that’s where you can see the DIYs in action! Now, below that video you’ll find some before and after pictures just for the full effect of how these fantastic projects turned out!
Ok so there’s the video, now here are some photos just to really showcase these thrifted transformations!
These are the vases I chose. I loved the tall dramatic shape of the green vase. It just reminded me of something you’d see in Dracula’s castle. Then I also got a medium-sized hurricane because I just needed a simple shape to craft onto.
I absolutely love how this vase turned out. I tried the baking soda and paint stoneware hack to make both of the vases. I think the baking soda adds the perfect texture to the paint and makes these vases look so much better than cheap thrifted vases. ALSO the Dollar Tree bat on the front just looks incredible and way better than I ever thought it would turn out.
This vase looks equally as cool with the “bone color” baking soda latex paint mixture. Then I glued on a few plastic skeleton hands and bones to complete the look. I feel like this has a nice contemporary vibe.
Next, I transformed these silver candle sticks into much cuter pieces. Fun fact, I discovered these are actually perfume bottles! You never know what strange surprises you’ll find at the thrift store!
These were such a simple thrift transformation! All I did was add a little matte black paint and sanded off the raised bits so that original silver could shine through. These made a stunning addition to my dining table centerpiece in addition with my bat vase!
Finally, I didn’t actually thrift these books but rather, they were free from my high school’s library (they were throwing them away and I took them for future art projects). I found them a few weeks back tucked away in a storage bin and figured why not give them new life as Halloween decor.
And here are the completed books! I think they look great in the black/purple/gold color scheme. I tried to incorporate texture and have a lot of fun with them.
Anyways! That does it for today! I had a blast making these DIYs and I hope you are enjoying HalloWeek so far. There’s still three days left, so keep checking back my blog tab for more.
If you missed yesterday’s post, I did some Dollar Tree DIYs and they can be found right here.
